ICBA Team Reflects on Progress and Impact at Annual Open Day
28 February 2026, UAE: The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) brought its team together for the annual open day, creating a moment to reflect on the achievements of 2025 and to align on the priorities that will guide the year ahead.
Throughout the day, colleagues reviewed key milestones across research, partnerships, and capacity development initiatives. Discussions focused on how the Center’s work continues to address pressing challenges in water scarcity, soil salinity, and food security across arid and climate vulnerable regions. From advancing resilient crop systems to strengthening institutional partnerships and expanding knowledge platforms, ICBA’s impact extends well beyond its headquarters, supporting communities and policymakers across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and beyond.
The programme included a visit to the scientific research station, where teams observed field trials and exchanged insights on ongoing experiments and future directions. The gathering also provided an opportunity to welcome new colleagues and reaffirm the shared purpose that connects the Center’s diverse workforce. ICBA brings together 50 employees from 21 countries, reflecting its international character and enriching its research environment through a wide range of perspectives and expertise.
Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, said, “Taking time to reflect on our journey strengthens our ability to respond to the needs of the communities we serve. The progress achieved over the past year reflects a sustained commitment to rigorous scientific work and the collaborative spirit that defines ICBA’s culture. The addition of new colleagues further strengthens the Center’s capacity to advance practical solutions that support sustainable agriculture in arid and climate-affected environments.”
The annual open day serves as a reminder that ICBA’s progress is rooted in collective effort and a long-term vision to build resilient food systems for a changing climate.
