Platypus Wins Bernard Blum 2025 Award for Innovation in Biocontrol Technology
28 October 2025, Switzerland: Platypus, an Israeli materials startup, has received the Bernard Blum Award for Innovation in Biocontrol in the category Product Assisting Uptake of Biocontrol.
The award recognizes PlatyForm, a biodegradable, bio-based delivery technology developed by Platypus that enables the controlled release of natural active compounds such as essential oils and pheromones.
Presented annually by the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) during ABIM, the Bernard Blum Award highlights new developments that support the adoption of biological pest management.
PlatyForm: Delivery System for Natural Pest Control
PlatyForm is a gel-based delivery system designed to stabilize and extend the activity of volatile natural ingredients. It allows manufacturers to produce pest control products suitable for organic farming and compatible with current agricultural practices.
In field trials, PlatyForm extended the effectiveness period of natural pest control products and maintained performance with reduced quantities of active ingredients.
The material is fully biodegradable and bio-based, offering manufacturers a simplified regulatory pathway and shorter development timelines. Platypus reports that its use can reduce research and development time and costs by up to 50%.
The system can be used across sectors, including agriculture, home and garden products, and post-harvest protection.
