Bayer Introduces New Soybean Herbicide Vyconic™
03 March 2025, Colorado: The Crop Science division of Bayer announced the launch of Vyconic™ soybeans, a breakthrough trait technology that combines five herbicide tolerances in a single soybean variety — a first for the industry. The new technology was unveiled at Commodity Classic 2025 in Denver, marking a major advancement in weed management flexibility for farmers.
Vyconic soybeans feature tolerance to dicamba, glufosinate, mesotrione, 2,4-D, and glyphosate, enabling growers to design highly customized weed control programs suited to their specific field conditions. With the addition of mesotrione and 2,4-D, Bayer expands its herbicide-tolerant portfolio beyond previous generations, offering effective control against challenging broadleaf weeds such as Palmer amaranth and waterhemp.
Along with this unprecedented weed control flexibility, Vyconic soybeans are built on advanced genetics that promise excellent yield potential and improved agronomic performance. According to Kacy Perry, North America Soybean Business Lead at Bayer’s Crop Science division, the introduction of Vyconic will “empower farmers to create custom weed management plans that lead to better outcomes and higher yields.”
Bayer emphasizes that Vyconic soybeans will support proactive resistance management by allowing the use of multiple herbicides with different modes of action, reducing the likelihood of resistant weed development. The company expects the technology to enhance on-farm productivity and sustainability once regulatory approvals are complete.
Brian Naber, President of Crop Science North America and Australia/New Zealand Region, said the launch reflects Bayer’s ongoing commitment to innovation in agriculture. “We understand the challenges farmers face with weed control, and Vyconic underscores our focus on delivering advanced solutions that meet the evolving needs of growers in the U.S. and worldwide,” he added.
