ISO Approves New Herbicide Common Name ‘Toxapyzone’ for Benzoylpyrazole Molecule

29 December 2025, GenevaA new ISO common name has been officially approved for a benzoylpyrazole herbicide developed by Shandong Dehao Chemical Co., Ltd. The molecule, identified by the Chinese common name 苯噁吡草酮, has been assigned the international common name “toxapyzone” as of 25 December 2025.

The compound, with the chemical identity 1-[[4-[3-(4,5-dihydro-3-isoxazolyl)-2-methyl-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoyl]-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl]oxy]ethyl methyl carbonate(CAS No. 3034584-16-9), falls under the benzoylpyrazole class of herbicides and is expected to be used in weed management applications pending national registrations.

According to ISO, no objections were received during the review period for the proposed name “toxapyzone,” allowing the designation to move to confirmed status. The name will be formally added to the March 2026 update of the XML data set for ISO 1750:2023, the global reference standard for common names of pesticides.

The French provisional common name has also been noted as « toxapyzone » (nf).

This approval marks another addition to the growing list of new-generation herbicide molecules entering the global crop protection market, reflecting continuing innovation in chemical weed control solutions.
