High Yielding Varieties of Black Gram (Urad): IARI Seed Treatment and Cultivation Recommendations
22 June 2025, New Delhi: The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) advises farmers to begin sowing black gram (urad) while maintaining sufficient moisture in the soil to ensure good germination.
High Yielding Varieties of Black Gram (Urad)
IARI recommends treating seeds with Rhizobium culture and Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) before sowing, which helps in better root development, nutrient absorption, and ultimately higher yields. The high yielding black gram varieties recommended by IARI include Urd Type-9, T-31, and T-39.
These varieties are known for their high productivity, early maturity, and disease resistance. Farmers are advised to purchase seeds only from certified sources to ensure quality, purity, and better field performance. Following IARI’s guidelines can help farmers maximize black gram yield and profitability.
