Managing Purple Blotch and Stemphylium Blight in Onions with Metiram 70% WG

Disease Management in Onion Crop in India

18 May 2025, New Delhi: Onion farmers often struggle with two major fungal diseases: Purple Blotch and Stemphylium blight. These diseases not only reduce yield but also affect bulb quality. A proven and effective solution approved by the Central Insecticide Bureau under India’s Ministry of Agriculture is Metiram 70% WG.

Metiram is a broad-spectrum fungicide that plays a critical role in controlling both Purple Blotch and Stemphylium blight. The active ingredient content ranges from 875 to 1050 grams per hectare. Farmers are recommended to apply a formulation of 1250 to 1500 grams per hectare for best results. It must be diluted in 500 litres of water per hectare for effective coverage.

One of the key advantages of Metiram 70% WG is its relatively short waiting period. Onions treated with Metiram can be harvested just seven days after the last application, offering flexibility during the harvest season. With consistent use, Metiram ensures clean, disease-free onion crops and helps improve marketable yields.
