Manipur Dairy Rebrands Under NDDB Management, Launches New Products and Digital Platforms
18 September 2025, New Delhi: The dairy sector in Northeast India received a major boost as the Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd, now rebranded as “Manipur Dairy”, unveiled its new identity and product portfolio under the professional management of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The rebranding, launched by Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, signals a fresh push to strengthen cooperative dairying in the state and expand its role in India’s fast-growing dairy economy.
The Governor inaugurated a range of new milk and value-added products, including fortified and probiotic lines, while also launching NDDB’s Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) and Dairy ERP platform to enhance transparency, traceability, and farmer payments. A new Bulk Milk Chilling Centre and the creation of all-women dairy cooperatives in rural Manipur were also announced, aligning with India’s White Revolution 2.0 and efforts to empower women in agriculture.
With a cattle population of 2.6 lakh and favourable climatic conditions, Manipur is considered one of India’s emerging dairy hubs. NDDB has provided both financial and technical assistance — including grants, interest-free loans, and capacity-building programmes — to stabilise the Union and expand its operations. The cooperative is also set to begin supplying milk to the Assam Rifles, India’s paramilitary force, creating a stable institutional market for farmers.
Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NDDB, emphasised that these reforms not only strengthen dairy production in Manipur but also reflect India’s broader commitment to farmer-centric cooperatives, digital integration, and sustainable livestock practices. Plans to expand retail presence through ‘Milk & More’ consumer outlets will further integrate Manipur Dairy into India’s competitive dairy marketplace, which is the world’s largest by volume.
