Preventing Damping-Off in Onion Nurseries with Carbendazim + Mancozeb
Disease Management in Onion Crop in India
18 May 2025, New Delhi: Damping-off is a seedling disease affecting onion nurseries, often caused by fungi such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, and Fusarium. It leads to seedling death before or after emergence, impacting stand establishment.
The Central Insecticide Bureau (CIB) under the Ministry of Agriculture recommends a combination of Carbendazim 25% + Mancozeb 50% WS for effective control.
- Active Ingredient (a.i.): 7.5 g (Carbendazim) + 15 g (Mancozeb)
- Formulation Dosage: 30 g/ha
- Water Dilution: 10 Litres/ha
- Waiting Period: Not applicable
The dual action of Carbendazim (systemic) and Mancozeb (contact) ensures complete protection from seed-borne and soil-borne pathogens. Seed treatment and nursery drenching are highly recommended.
