Elders Facilitates Sale Of Carinya Brahman Stud
23 July 2025, AU: In what is a seismic seedstock announcement this week, Brahman breeders, the Kirk family, Carinya Stud, Gayndah have announced the sale of the majority of their internationally known prefix.
Matt Kirk has confirmed that the herd has been sold privately to Gavin and Dillon Scott and family, Rosetta Stud, Rosetta Station, Collinsville.
Touted as one largest sale transactions in decades, the agreement was reached between the Kirk family and the purchasers with the sale facilitated by Anthony Ball, Elders Stud Stock. The transaction is believed to involve 730 registered females, all No.4 and No. 5 replacement registered heifers, 12 breeding sires and all semen and embryo stocks. The sale does not include the Carinya prefix but involves 150 pregnant recipients. The purchase price remains confidential.
The sale also does not involve two male calf drops that have already been aligned for the Annual Carinya Garglen Brahman Sales for 2025 and 2026.
Commenting on the announcement, Matt Kirk said, “As you can imagine it’s been a highly emotional time for all of us, our family have invested over 70 years of refinement and breeding into this.”
“However, I think it’s the right time, we exit the industry on a high, the herd stays together, it’s not been split, and it’s going to a family that are also extremely impassioned about the Brahman breed and its future within the beef industry.”
Matt went further saying, “This decision was made by our entire family, there’s also an element of succession planning, the next generation can choose their own paths, they’re not restrained, we’ve still have all our properties, and our Simmental/Simbrah operation.”
Agent, Anthony Ball also made comment, “One of the most gratifying elements of the sale agreement is that the nucleus of the herd has gone from one family who have loved and invested their life’s work in Brahmans to another family who have also done the same. The Scott family saw this as a once in a life opportunity and seized that moment.”
“They (the Scott family) have always had an eye for cattle and Brahman sires and this purchase will allow them to continue this important legacy.”
Commenting on their momentous purchase Gavin and Dillon Scott said, “We were approached by Anthony Ball regarding purchasing the herd. John Kirk and family have been breeding and importing quality Brahman cattle for decades, we saw this as a great opportunity to acquire a herd of females and breeding sires that are second to none.”
“It’s not every day an opportunity like this magnitude comes along and we’re committed to preserving the legacy of the stud, the cattle.”
“We wish to thank Anthony for the initial offer and the Kirk family for their dedication and commitment to the Brahman breed and the seedstock industry as a whole.”
Commenting on the possible future direction of the new acquisition, the new owners both added, “It’s our intention to continue to follow a similar path of breeding as the Kirk family, in the future, we hope to offer bulls in Brahman Week and also by private negotiation.”
