The Republic of Korea takes over as host of the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables
08 February 2026, US: The Republic of Korea marked its appointment as host country of the Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables (CCPFV) with a commemorative event held on 5 February in Seoul. Hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), the event brought together approximately 200 participants from government, international organizations, academia and the food industry, both in person and online. Representatives from the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) were among those in attendance.
In a congratulatory message, Sarah Cahill, Secretary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, welcomed the Republic of Korea’s appointment as host country of the CCPFV, noting that it reflects the trust built through Korea’s long-standing and meaningful contributions to Codex work. She highlighted the country’s strong scientific expertise and commitment to science-based international food standards, expressing confidence in its leadership of the Committee.
Welcoming the announcement, the Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Allan Azegele, commended the Republic of Korea for its constructive role in Codex standard setting and emphasized his expectation that Korea would guide the CCPFV with balance, inclusiveness and transparency.
During the ceremony, MFDS Minister Oh Yu-Kyoung officially announced Korea’s appointment as host country of the CCPFV and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation. She underscored Korea’s intention to support the development of trusted, science-based international standards while contributing responsibly to the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The event also marked the launch of a national governance framework to support Korea’s role as host country, bringing together government authorities, research institutions, academia and industry to strengthen coordination and stakeholder engagement. In the afternoon, an international symposium on “The Future of the CCPFV” addressed the Committee’s mandate, strategic direction and expectations from stakeholders, highlighting the importance of effective and inclusive standard setting.
