USDA Allocates $675.9 Million in Disaster Relief to Florida Farmers Following Hurricane Damage

22 July 2025, Washington: In a major move to support agricultural recovery, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced a disaster assistance package worth $675.9 million for farmers in Florida impacted by recent hurricanes, including Idalia, Debby, Helene, and Milton.

During her visit to Florida on July 21, Secretary Rollins signed a block grant agreement with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), enabling the state to directly administer the relief funds. The grant aims to address a wide range of agricultural damages, including infrastructure, citrus, and timber losses, as well as direct market disruptions.

This funding is part of a broader $30 billion disaster relief initiative under the American Relief Act, 2025. Florida is one of 14 U.S. states working in collaboration with the USDA to implement customized block grant programs that reflect the specific recovery needs of local agricultural sectors.

“Farmers and ranchers across the Southeast, especially in Florida, have faced repeated devastation from back-to-back hurricane seasons,” said Secretary Rollins. “The USDA has worked hand-in-hand with state leaders to ensure affected producers get the assistance they need to rebuild. The Trump Administration stands firmly with our farmers as they recover and continue to sustain the global food supply.”

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson welcomed the announcement, stating, “This relief is a lifeline for our growers and ranchers. Florida’s agriculture sector is critical not just to the state economy but to national food security. We are grateful for the federal government’s timely support.”

The agreement covers agricultural losses that are not eligible under other USDA disaster recovery programs. Florida producers seeking assistance are encouraged to contact FDACS for detailed program information and application procedures.

As climate-related challenges continue to impact agriculture worldwide, targeted interventions like these offer a model for coordinated federal-state responses to extreme weather events and their effect on food systems.
