7.85 Lakh New Homes Approved Under PMAY: Shivraj Singh Chouhan Reaffirms Commitment to Housing for All
08 June 2025, Sehore: In a significant step toward ensuring housing for every poor family in India, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced the approval of 7,85,356 new homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Speaking at a public gathering in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan reaffirmed the government’s resolve to make sure that “every poor family gets a roof over their head.”
14 Lakh Homes Already Approved, More to Be Added
Chouhan stated that as per the 2018+ eligibility list, 14 lakh homes had already been approved. The new sanction of 7.85 lakh homes marks a major expansion of the scheme. Survey and verification work is currently underway to identify additional eligible families who were previously left out. “We will ensure no deserving person is left without a home,” he said, promising that new names will be included after due verification.
Step Toward a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047
The housing initiative is part of the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission of a Viksit Bharat(Developed India) by 2047. Chouhan emphasized that national development is only possible through the development of villages and rural communities, and that providing a safe, permanent home is central to that goal. “When every family has a solid roof over their head, only then can we ensure long-term social and economic progress,” he said.
CM Mohan Yadav: No Eligible Beneficiary Will Be Left Out
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who was also present, echoed Chouhan’s sentiments and said the state government is committed to ensuring the benefits of PMAY reach every eligible family. He assured that district-level monitoring will be carried out to make sure that not only the names on the current list, but also newly identified beneficiaries are provided housing under the scheme.
Benefits for Both Urban and Rural Poor
The PMAY benefits are being extended to both rural and urban poor. Beneficiaries receive financial support from the government to construct permanent houses. The scheme is seen as a crucial step toward restoring dignity and providing social security to underprivileged families across the country.
Poverty Alleviation Remains a Top Priority
Chouhan reiterated that both central and state governments are working in tandem to prioritize the welfare of the poor. “It is our mission that no family remains homeless in the country. Through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, we are reaching out to every corner to identify and assist the needy,” he said.
