The meeting, held virtually on July 15, brought together senior officials from both nations and highlighted emerging opportunities for mutual growth in the agriculture and allied sectors.
Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture
The meeting was co-chaired by Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (India), and Mr. Sergio Iraeta, Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (Argentina). In his address, Mr. Chaturvedi emphasized that Argentina remains a vital partner for India in the agricultural domain. He noted that the bilateral relationship is driven by a spirit of collaboration—focusing on the exchange of knowledge, technology, and successful practices that serve the farming communities of both countries.
Highlighting areas of mutual interest, Mr. Chaturvedi pointed to the potential for joint efforts in agricultural mechanization, pest control, climate-resilient farming systems, and advanced research. These areas, he said, present a strong foundation for developing sustainable and productive agricultural ecosystems.
Argentina’s Vision for Deeper Collaboration
On the Argentine side, Mr. Iraeta reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation with India. He expressed strong interest in working together on advanced technologies such as genome editing and plant breeding, along with precision farming and mechanization. Mr. Iraeta acknowledged the agricultural strength and legacy of both countries and underscored the shared potential for increasing productivity and enhancing farmer livelihoods.

He highlighted a range of innovative government initiatives focused on modernizing agriculture through digital solutions, promoting climate-resilient practices, and expanding credit access and risk mitigation tools for farmers.
Broad Agenda for Future Cooperation
During the discussions, both sides explored collaboration in key areas such as horticulture, oilseed and pulse value chains, precision agriculture, biopesticides, locust control, and carbon credit mechanisms for farmers.
