
India–WFP Partnership: Carl Skau Meets Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi to Strengthen Global Food Security
26 August 2025, New Delhi: Mr. Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer of the World Food Programme (WFP), met Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi.
The meeting centered on deepening India–WFP cooperation, with discussions spanning food and nutrition security, South–South cooperation, climate-resilient farming, and innovations in digital agriculture.
Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of making India the world’s food basket, stressing bio-fortified crops, crop insurance, and traceability as key drivers of food security.
Mr. Skau commended India’s progress and underlined its leadership role in global food security, noting that India’s models—ranging from robust social protection systems to women’s empowerment and climate-resilient livelihoods—could help other nations. He reaffirmed WFP’s commitment to stronger collaboration with India in addressing global hunger and food insecurity.
