Indian Rice Exporters Federation Member Secures 5,000-Tonne Basmati Rice Export Deal with United States
19 February 2026, New Delhi: A member company of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) has finalized a commercial agreement to export 5,000 tonnes of premium Indian basmati rice to the United States, signalling renewed momentum in bilateral agricultural trade and reinforcing India’s leadership in the global basmati market.
According to the Federation, the export order reflects the sustained international demand for authentic Indian basmati rice, valued for its distinctive aroma, grain length, and cooking characteristics. The development comes amid improving trade facilitation measures and evolving tariff structures that are enhancing the competitiveness of Indian agricultural commodities in key overseas markets.
In a statement, IREF said the agreement represents “a strong endorsement of the superior quality, aroma, and authenticity of Indian basmati rice,” adding that global buyers continue to demonstrate confidence in India’s export ecosystem. The Federation noted that ongoing positive trade engagement between India and the United States is expected to open further avenues for agri-trade expansion.
IREF emphasized that exporters are maintaining a strong focus on quality assurance, traceability, and strict adherence to international food safety and phytosanitary standards. The Federation also highlighted continued efforts toward sustainable cultivation practices and responsible sourcing to meet the expectations of premium global markets.
India remains the world’s largest exporter of basmati rice, supplying high-value varieties to North America, Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. The United States continues to be a strategically important destination, supported by rising consumer demand for specialty and aromatic rice among diverse culinary segments.
