Kisan Trust Brings Focus on Farmer Welfare at Chaudhary Charan Singh Kisan Samman Ceremony
22 December 2025, New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated as the Chief Guest at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Kisan Samman Ceremony, organised by Kisan Trust at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. During the ceremony, the Minister released a book and honoured progressive farmers and institutions for their contributions to Indian agriculture. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary attended as the Guest of Honour.
At the awards ceremony, progressive farmer Satyawan Sehrawat was felicitated, while Indian Agricultural Research Institute Deputy Director General Devendra Kumar Yadav received the Krishi Ratna Award 2025 under the Agricultural Advancement category. Fruvatec Private Limited was recognised in the Agripreneurship category, Pratham Education Foundation received the Kisan Trust Seva Ratna Award, and the Kisan Trust Kalam Ratna Awardwas conferred on Harveer Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Chouhan described Chaudhary Charan Singh as a lifelong symbol of integrity, humility and commitment to villages, farmers and the underprivileged. He recalled Charan Singh’s role in the freedom movement, including participation in the Salt Satyagraha inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, and his decisive leadership in abolishing the zamindari system after Independence. The Minister noted that Charan Singh consistently emphasised that India’s prosperity is rooted in the well-being of its farmers.
Chouhan also highlighted Charan Singh’s vision of linking foodgrain storage with welfare, and the concept of “food in exchange for employment,” aimed at ensuring dignified food security for vulnerable households.
Referring to the recently passed Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), popularly known as G Ram G Law, the Minister said the law strengthens welfare outcomes by increasing guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days. He cited allocations under MGNREGA, which rose from ₹88,000 crore to ₹1.11 lakh crore, and emphasised that funds must translate into visible rural assets. Under the new framework, villages will prepare their own development plans, integrating employment generation with construction of schools, roads, drains, culverts and farm roads.
The Minister added that the law categorises panchayats based on development and employment needs, ensuring targeted fund allocation. It also recognises labour engaged in sowing, harvesting and other agricultural operations, aiming to balance the interests of farmers and rural workers.
Expressing concern over the sale of counterfeit fertilisers, pesticides and unauthorised biostimulants, the Minister said the government will introduce a new bill in the upcoming Parliament session to address these malpractices through stricter laws and enforcement.
He also invited Kisan Trust to share suggestions for the forthcoming Union Budget, five-year planning for agriculture, and the proposed Chintan Shivir. Concluding his address, Chouhan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and rural development, guided by the principles of Chaudhary Charan Singh.
