Madhya Pradesh Eyes Global Leadership in Organic Cotton; CM Mohan Yadav Pitches Investment to Inditex

18 July 2025, Bhopal: On the second day of his official visit to Spain, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav focused on positioning his state as a future global hub for organic cotton production. In a high-level meeting at the headquarters of Inditex—one of the world’s largest fashion retail companies based in Galicia, Dr. Yadav invited the company to invest in Madhya Pradesh’s sustainable textile ecosystem.

Madhya Pradesh: India’s Organic Cotton Leader

Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s dominance in organic cotton cultivation, especially in the Nimar and Malwa regions, Dr. Yadav emphasized the scale and integrity of the state’s production. “Madhya Pradesh is the leading organic cotton-producing state in India. Several farmer groups certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) are active in our state and can align perfectly with Inditex’s sustainability and traceability goals,” he said.

The Chief Minister proposed a strategic partnership with Inditex across the farm-to-fabric value chain, which would not only ensure better prices for farmers but also provide them direct access to international markets. He also shared that Madhya Pradesh is advancing into the cotton-to-carbon fiber domain, enhancing its potential in textile innovation.

PM MITRA Park in Dhar: A Sustainable Manufacturing Destination

Dr. Yadav invited Inditex to explore investment opportunities in the upcoming PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Park in Dhar district. “This integrated textile park can serve as a model production site for global brands looking for sustainable, cost-efficient, and traceable textile manufacturing,” he stated.

Boost to Rural Employment and Women Empowerment

He noted that Madhya Pradesh currently exports textiles and garments worth over ₹7,000 crore annually, with Europe being a major destination. A partnership with Inditex, he said, could push this figure beyond ₹10,000 crore. “Such collaborations will not only benefit our farmers but also create significant employment in rural areas and drive women’s empowerment,” Dr. Yadav added.

Key incentives include 90% land subsidy, 40% support for machinery, and 50% assistance for adopting green technologies. The government is also building a dedicated organic cotton traceability platform and launching an ESG-certified MSME vendor development program to facilitate ethical sourcing and transparency in the supply chain.
