Madhya Pradesh Farmer Earns ₹61,000 Profit from 9 Acres of Moong with Scientific Cultivation
17 August 2025, Bhopal: In Vidisha district’s Kheruahaat village, young educated farmer Shubham Raghuvanshi is redefining farming with a modern approach. Over the past two years, he has been cultivating a third crop of moong during the summer (Zaide season) using scientific methods, achieving impressive returns.
This year, Shubham planted two moong varieties—PDM 139 and Star 444—across 9.38 acres of land. Focusing on stubble management, he followed expert advice, using high-quality seeds, balanced fertilizers, and proper pest and disease control measures.
Scientific Guidance Brings Record Success
After harvesting wheat in the Rabi season, Shubham incorporated the leftover stubble into the soil using a rotavator and prepared the field for moong sowing on 25 March. He employed sprinkler irrigation for optimal growth. Early signs of Yellow Mosaic Virus appeared, but with guidance from Agriculture Extension Officer Vishal Yadav, infected plants were removed, and Imidacloprid was applied to control the disease.
He also implemented integrated nutrient management, boosting plant growth and pod development. Timely sowing ensured the crop matured before the monsoon, allowing natural ripening without chemicals.
Natural Harvest, MSP Sale, and Impressive Profit
The crop was harvested manually and threshed for grains. Shubham achieved a yield of 10.75 quintals per hectare. Through the Madhya Pradesh government’s e-upaj registration, he sold his produce at the Vidisha government moong procurement center.
At the MSP rate of ₹8,768 per quintal, his total income reached ₹94,256. With cultivation costs of ₹32,500 per hectare, Shubham earned a net profit of ₹61,756 per hectare.
A Model of High Returns in Short Duration
This two-month moong crop demonstrates that with scientific farming practices, timely sowing, and support from government schemes, agriculture can be a profitable venture. Farmers like Shubham are setting an inspiring example, showing that high returns are possible even in a short span.
