Meeting Between Agriculture Ministers of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand: Focus on Agricultural Collaboration
13 May 2025, Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Agriculture and Horticulture Minister, Dr. Kirori Lal Meena, held a meeting on Friday with Uttarakhand’s Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi at Pant Krishi Bhawan in Jaipur. The discussion centered on enhancing cooperation between the two states in the fields of agriculture and horticulture.
Key topics discussed included agro-processing units, organic farming, seed production, GI tagging, and the cultivation of olives and millets. The ministers also explored opportunities to promote natural farming and crop diversification. Both states agreed on encouraging climate-resilient crops, fruits, and vegetables to support sustainable agriculture.
Minister Ganesh Joshi highlighted Uttarakhand’s strengths in natural farming and the cultivation of medicinal plants, aromatic flowers, honey, and dragon fruit. He suggested that some of these climate-resilient crops could also be grown in Rajasthan. To facilitate this, he proposed exchange visits between delegations of the two states, enabling mutual learning and collaboration in the interest of farmers.
Dr. Kirori Lal Meena shared that Rajasthan ranks among the top three states in the country for solar pump installations and is a leading producer of millets. He also mentioned the state’s initiatives to reduce chemical fertilizer usage by promoting nano urea and DAP. Additionally, Rajasthan is working toward securing more GI tags for its agricultural products to ensure better market prices for farmers.
Ganesh Joshi provided insights into the subsidy being offered on millet seeds in Uttarakhand and the state’s year-round mushroom cultivation. He also spoke about “Buransh” flower juice, known for its benefits for heart patients, and introduced the “House of Himalaya” organization, which is involved in branding agricultural products and helping farmers receive fair value.
This meeting marked a significant step toward fostering cooperation and innovation in agriculture between Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Both ministers expressed their commitment to working together to increase farmers’ incomes and promote sustainable farming practices.
