PM Modi to Launch Two Big Agricultural Initiatives for Farmers on 11th October

10 October 2025, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch two landmark initiatives for the agriculture sector — the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission at the National Agricultural Science Complex, Pusa, New Delhi, on October 11, 2025. The initiatives are aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and strengthening the income base of India’s farming community.

The announcement was made by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during a press conference held in New Delhi.

Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission

The Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission will address the existing gap between domestic demand and production of pulses. Although India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, it continues to depend on imports to meet national requirements. The mission aims to expand the area under pulses cultivation from 27.5 million hectares to 31 million hectares by 2030–31, and to increase production from 24.2 million tonnes to 35 million tonnes. Productivity will also be enhanced from 880 kg per hectare to 1,130 kg per hectare.

The government has prepared a comprehensive research and development strategy focusing on the development of high-yielding, pest-resistant, and climate-resilient varieties. High-quality seeds will be provided through the distribution of 1.26 crore quintals of certified seeds and 88 lakh free seed kits. In addition, 1,000 processing units will be established in major pulse-growing regions to promote local value addition, each supported by a government subsidy of ₹25 lakh.

Chouhan added that under the mission, central agencies will procure 100 percent of registered farmers’ produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), ensuring fair returns and price stability. The initiative will focus on major pulse crops such as tur (pigeon pea), urad (black gram), and masoor (lentil), making India self-reliant in pulses over the next decade.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will focus on improving agricultural productivity in 100 low-performing districts across India. Drawing inspiration from the Aspirational Districts Programme, the scheme will introduce region-specific strategies to enhance productivity through better irrigation facilities, improved storage infrastructure, increased access to institutional credit, and promotion of crop diversification.

The programme will be monitored through a real-time dashboard developed by NITI Aayog. Chouhan stated that raising the productivity of low-performing districts to the national average would significantly enhance total food production, boost farmers’ income, and contribute to the nation’s overall food security.

Infrastructure and National Development

On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for more than 1,100 projects related to the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Food Processing sectors, with a total investment of over ₹42,000 crore. These projects will provide a major boost to agricultural infrastructure, enhance processing capacities, and create new livelihood opportunities across rural India.

The event will also recognise the achievements of farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, and agri-entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions to agricultural growth. The government has reported that over 50 lakh farmers are now associated with 10,000 FPOs, including 1,100 ‘Crorepati FPOs’ with an annual turnover exceeding ₹1 crore. More than 1 lakh farmers have been certified for organic farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming, and 10,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies have been computerised and converted into e-PACS functioning as Common Service Centres, fertiliser outlets, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras.
