Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurates new NSC seed processing plant in New Delhi
28 October 2025, New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, inaugurated the National Seeds Corporation’s (NSC) new vegetable and flower seed processing and packaging unit at Pusa Complex, New Delhi. He also virtually inaugurated five NSC seed processing plants located at Bareilly, Dharwad, Hassan, Suratgarh, and Raichur.
The Pusa unit has a processing capacity of 1 tonne per hour, while the other five plants can each process 4 tonnes per hour. These facilities will help ensure the supply of quality seeds to farmers and improve seed production standards across the country.
During the event, Chouhan launched ‘Seed Management 2.0’ and an online seed booking platform for farmers, allowing them to book seeds online with more transparency and ease. He said that ensuring quality seeds reach small and marginal farmers is essential for better productivity.
The Minister said that the government is taking strict measures to stop the sale of substandard and fake seeds, a concern raised by many farmers during the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. Commending NSC, he said the new facilities will strengthen India’s seed supply system.
The event was attended by Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, NSC CMD and Additional Secretary Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Joint Secretary Ajit Kumar Sahu, and senior officials from NSC and the Agriculture Ministry.
