ABB Launches Vertical Hollow Shaft Motors for Deep-Well Pumping Applications
28 September 2025, New Delhi: ABB has introduced a line of vertical hollow shaft (VHS) motors engineered for vertical turbine pump applications in water, agricultural, and industrial sectors. The motors are designed to provide efficient operation, reliable performance, and simplified maintenance for systems that require durable pumping solutions.
Ease of Maintenance and Reduced Downtime
The VHS motors feature a hollow shaft that allows direct access to the pump shaft, a top-mounted coupling, and a sight glass for oil inspection. These features reduce service time, simplify alignment, and minimize operational downtime for operators and maintenance teams.
Performance and Compatibility
Equipped with high-thrust bearings, the motors are designed to handle the axial loads typical of deep-well and vertical turbine pumps. They meet NEMA Premium (IE3) efficiency standards and are inverter duty rated for use with modern variable speed drives. Standard NEMA P-base flange dimensions enable easy drop-in replacement of existing motors, making them suitable for both new installations and replacements.
ABB VHS motors are used in agricultural irrigation systems, municipal water and wastewater management, industrial cooling towers, fire protection systems, and other vertical turbine pump applications. Their design and construction ensure reliable operation under demanding conditions while supporting energy efficiency and operational longevity.
