Mahindra Showcases CNG, Ethanol and Electric Tractors at Agrovision 2025
22 November 2025, Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra presented a full range of alternate fuel tractor technologies at Agrovision 2025 in Nagpur. The showcase was attended by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development.
Alternate Fuel Platforms at Agrovision 2025
Mahindra displayed three fuel platforms developed for reduced emissions and lower operating costs. The CNG/CBG tractor is built on the Yuvo Tech+ platform and is designed to operate on compressed natural gas, compressed biogas and dual-fuel diesel–CNG modes. The ethanol flex-fuel engine is designed to run on ethanol produced from sugarcane, maize, husk, crop residue and other farm-derived feedstock. The electric tractor is developed on the OJA platform with a lightweight architecture, torque-focused power delivery and fast-charging capability.
All three platforms were developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.
Mahindra’s Position on Low-Emission Mechanisation
Veejay Nakra, President of the Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said the company aims to support India’s shift to alternate fuels and contribute to national targets on long-term emissions reduction. He stated that the display at Agrovision 2025 reflects Mahindra’s direction in developing new tractor technologies aligned with the Government of India’s net-zero pathway for 2070.
Focus on Net-Zero Pathways
Mahindra stated that India’s move toward net-zero requires increased adoption of CNG, CBG, ethanol, electric and biofuel technologies. The company has been developing and presenting different alternate fuel tractor concepts over recent years, including CNG and CBG platforms, with the objective of lowering emissions and operational expenses.
Details of Technologies on Display
The CNG/CBG tractor is designed for cost-efficient operations using gaseous fuels and aims to improve fuel expenditure and overall field economics. Its dual-fuel capability allows farmers to operate between diesel and gaseous fuels depending on availability.
The ethanol flex-fuel engine is positioned as an option for reducing dependence on conventional liquid fuels. It is configured to run on ethanol blends from diversified agricultural feedstock and is intended to support agricultural waste utilisation and energy diversification.
The electric tractor offers zero tailpipe emissions and is focused on energy efficiency and lower per-hour running costs. It includes fast-charging and flexible charging options aimed at making electrification practical for multiple field and haulage applications.
Diesel Lineup Also Displayed
Mahindra and Swaraj also presented a broad range of diesel-powered 2WD and 4WD tractors and farm implements at the exhibition.
