High Yielding Soybean Varieties Recommended for Kharif 2025 in Maharashtra

25 May 2025, New Delhi: Soybean farming in Maharashtra plays a critical role in the state’s agricultural economy, especially in the north-western regions where the crop is extensively cultivated during the Kharif season. For the upcoming Kharif 2025 season, farmers in Maharashtra are advised to undertake sowing between the second week of June and the first week of July, aligning with the onset of the monsoon. It is essential that sowing is carried out only after a minimum of 100 mm rainfall is received, ensuring suitable moisture levels for seed germination and early plant growth.

An important soil management practice to be followed is deep summer ploughing, recommended once every three years. This activity helps break hard pans in the soil, improves aeration, and reduces the prevalence of pests and weeds. If not done already, farmers should perform deep ploughing now and follow it up with two rounds of criss-cross harrowing to achieve a fine tilth. During normal years, criss-cross harrowing followed by planking is adequate to prepare the field for sowing.

Maharashtra farmers benefit from a comprehensive list of high-yielding soybean varieties approved at both the central and state levels. Centrally notified varieties suitable for the state include NRC 165, JS 22-12, JS 22-16, NRC 150, NRC 152, JS 21-72, RVSM 2011-35, NRC 138, EMS 100-39, RVS 76, NRC 142, NRC 130, MACS 1520, RSC 10-46, RSC 10-52, AMS-M-B-5-18, AMS 1001, JS 20-116, JS 20-94, JS 20-98, and NRC 127. In addition, the state government has specifically recommended varieties such as MAUS 725 and Phoole Durva (KDS 992), which have shown excellent performance under Maharashtra’s agro-climatic conditions.

These varieties have been tested for yield performance, adaptability to different soil types, and resistance to common soybean pests and diseases. Farmers are encouraged to select from these varieties based on their local conditions, historical performance, and seed availability.

With the right choice of variety, timely sowing, and good field preparation, Maharashtra’s soybean growers can expect a productive Kharif 2025. For localized guidance and technical support, farmers should remain in touch with Krishi Vigyan Kendras and agriculture extension officers across the state.
