Inari Appoints Lisa Nunez Safarian as Chief Executive Officer
31 October 2025, Cambridge: Inari and Flagship Pioneering announced the appointment of Lisa Nunez Safarian as the new Chief Executive Officer of Inari, effective November 4, 2025. Safarian, a member of Inari’s Board since May 2025, will continue to serve as a director. She succeeds interim CEO Ignacio Martinez, who remains Inari’s co-founder, board chair, and a General Partner at Flagship Pioneering. Safarian will also join Flagship Pioneering as a CEO-Partner.
Safarian has more than 30 years of experience in the agriculture industry, including leadership roles at Monsanto and Bayer. At Monsanto, she helped expand the company’s seeds, traits, licensing, and crop protection businesses before becoming President of Crop Science North America for Bayer following its acquisition of Monsanto.
“Inari is entering a critical phase, and Lisa’s experience in the global seed and crop protection business will strengthen our focus and execution,” said Ignacio Martinez. “I look forward to working with her as she leads Inari’s next stage of development.”
Safarian said, “Since joining the board, I have been impressed by Inari’s progress and the maturity of its product pipeline. I look forward to leading the company as we advance our work in agriculture.”
Inari focuses on improving plant performance through seed design. Its initial product portfolio includes High Yield Designs for soybeans, corn, and wheat. These products are developed using the company’s AI-enabled SEEDesign™ Platform, which integrates genomics, artificial intelligence, and gene editing to enhance crop productivity.
Safarian added, “Inari’s technology combines AI systems with a strong intellectual property foundation in traits and tools. The results achieved so far with High Yield Designs demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to agriculture.”
