EPA Proposes Registration of New Fungicide Fluoxapiprolin for Multiple Crops

20 August 2025, WashingtonThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the proposed registration of a new fungicide, fluoxapiprolin, for public comment. The proposal covers one technical and one end-use product containing this broad-spectrum active ingredient, which is intended for use on a wide range of crops, including Brassica head and stem vegetables, bulb vegetables, cucurbit and fruiting vegetables, grapes, leafy vegetables, leaf petiole vegetables, and potatoes.

According to the EPA, fluoxapiprolin, when applied according to label instructions, poses no significant risks to human health or the environment. The fungicide is designed to combat major fungal diseases such as downy mildew, late blight, and phytophthora blight, providing farmers with an additional tool for effective disease management.

“This new active ingredient is expected to be a valuable addition to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs,” the EPA said, highlighting its potential to support sustainable farming practices.

Alongside the proposed registration, the EPA has released detailed human health and ecological risk assessments for public review. The agency has also determined that the fungicide would have no adverse effects on species protected under the Endangered Species Act. No additional data are required at this stage to assess risks to humans or the environment.

The EPA will consider all public comments on the proposed registration and risk assessments before deciding whether the product meets the standards for registration under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). If approved, fluoxapiprolin will become a new tool for farmers in managing fungal diseases across a variety of crops.
