India’s 465th Registration Committee Meeting (CIB&RC) Clears 19 New Pesticide Registrations
29 August 2025, New Delhi: The Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC) has approved a fresh wave of technical and formulation registrations under Section 9(3) of the Insecticides Act, providing Indian farmers with access to new-generation crop protection solutions. The decisions were taken during the 465th RC meeting held on July 10, 2025 chaired by Dr. P.K. Singh, Agriculture Commissioner & Chairman, Registration Committee. The final minutes of the meeting were published on 28th July 2025.
These approvals span herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and nematicides, with both technical imports, indigenous manufacture, and formulation imports receiving clearance. Several approvals have been made subject to fixation of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) to ensure food safety standards in domestic and export markets.
Major Companies and Products Approved
The 465th RC meeting saw participation from global majors like BASF, Syngenta, FMC, Sumitomo, and UPL, along with leading Indian firms such as PI Industries, GSP Crop Science, Crystal Crop Protection, Dhanuka Agritech, Willowood, Cheminova India, and Agro Life Science Corporation.
Here are the highlights of the products cleared:
1. Herbicides: Tackling Weed Resistance
- BASF India Ltd. secured approval for Imazapyr (95% tech) and Imazapic (95% tech) imports, along with a formulation (Imazapic 17.5% + Imazapyr 52.5% WG) for herbicide-tolerant rice and mustard. These clearances are expected to bring advanced weed management solutions for direct-seeded rice, a practice gaining ground in water-stressed regions, and mustard, India’s major oilseed crop.
- Willowood Chemicals Ltd. gained approval for Ametryn tech import, strengthening options for pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control.
- PI Industries Ltd. received a green signal for Pyroxasulfone 63.75% + Diclosulam 13% WG, targeted against a broad spectrum of weeds in soybean and sugarcane.
- Crystal Crop Protection Ltd. obtained three approvals for herbicide combinations, including Quizalofop ethyl + Oxyfluorfen WG for weed management in onion, a high-value vegetable crop.
- Willowood Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. secured indigenous manufacturing approvals for multiple herbicide mixtures, including a triple combination (Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl + Pyrazosulfuron ethyl + Pretilachlor) for transplanted rice – a notable addition in tackling complex weed flora.
2. Insecticides & Nematicides: Protecting Crops from Hidden Pests
- Syngenta India Ltd. was cleared to import Cyclobutrifluram 41.6% FS, a nematicide formulation for managing root-knot nematodes (okra, tomato, cucumber) and burrowing nematodes (banana). Nematode infestations are often underdiagnosed but can slash yields by 20–30%.
- UPL Sustainable Agri Solutions Ltd. received approval for Flupyrimin 41.32% FS, a seed treatment option effective against early shoot borer, termites, and white grubs in sugarcane and groundnut.
- Sumitomo Chemicals India Ltd. secured approval for Bistrifluron 1% Bait for household termite management, strengthening public health pest control.
3. Fungicides: Shielding Crops from Disease Outbreaks
- GSP Crop Science Pvt. Ltd. gained approval for Topramezone technical, while Cheminova India Ltd. was cleared for Fluindapyr technical, strengthening domestic production of active ingredients.
- FMC India Pvt. Ltd. received approval for Fluindapyr + Flutriafol SC, a fungicide combination for managing false smut, sheath blight in rice, anthracnose in chilli, powdery mildew in cucumber, and early blight in tomato.
- Crystal Crop Protection Ltd. secured approval for Flonicamid + Spirotetramat SC, a cotton insecticide-fungicide combination that helps control sucking pests like whiteflies, aphids, jassids, and thrips.
- Dhanuka Agritech Ltd. was approved for Amisulbrom + Zoxamide SC targeting downy mildew in grapes, a disease that frequently impacts vineyard yields.
- Willowood Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. added Sulphur + Propineb DF for grape, chilli, and paddy disease management and Propiconazole + Thiophanate methyl WP for wheat rust and powdery mildew.
- Agro Life Science Corporation secured clearance for Thiophanate methyl + Copper oxychloride WP, strengthening tomato disease management.

Outlook
With these approvals, India has further diversified its pesticide portfolio, strengthening crop protection in major crops such as rice, wheat, mustard, soybean, cotton, tomato, chilli, onion, grapes, sugarcane, cucumber, banana, and groundnut.
Experts believe that the emphasis on indigenous manufacturing approvals also indicates a policy push toward reducing dependence on imports and boosting local production capacities.
For farmers, these new molecules promise better crop protection, potentially higher yields, and reduced crop losses—though the effectiveness will depend on responsible use, training, and integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
