India and the Netherlands Align to Advance Next-Gen Agriculture Through Tech, Training, and Trade

03 November 2025, New Delhi: India and the Netherlands are scaling up their agricultural partnership with a sharper focus on innovation, sustainability, and capacity-building, as reflected in the 8th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting held at Krishi Bhawan. The meeting, co-chaired by Priya Ranjan, Joint Secretary (Horticulture), Government of India, and Guido Landheer from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, signaled a shift from traditional cooperation to shared agritech transformation.

Rather than just reviewing past achievements, the dialogue centered on how both countries can use their combined strengths to address present-day agricultural challenges—from climate change and food safety to the need for smarter, circular farming solutions. Dutch expertise in controlled-environment agriculture and India’s expanding horticulture landscape emerged as key zones of collaboration.

A highlight of the discussions was the continued impact of the Centres of Excellence (CoEs), established under the Indo-Dutch framework. These CoEs have not only boosted high-yield crop varieties and seed quality but also enabled thousands of farmers to adopt modern technologies, signaling a strong grassroots impact. The meeting hinted at plans to replicate this scalable, tech-led extension model across more Indian states.

The agenda also ventured into new frontiers: phytosanitary protocols to smoothen agri-trade, innovations in the dairy and livestock sectors, deeper engagement on smart greenhouses, and a push for naturally ventilated polyhouses. Knowledge exchange, circular agriculture, food processing, and safety protocols were also discussed as critical future-ready sectors.

Delegations from both sides described the talks as productive and focused. Notably, the Netherlands is positioning itself not just as a technology partner but also a knowledge ally, aligning with India’s vision of Atmanirbhar and tech-driven agriculture.
