
PAU Scientists Focus on Tackling Pink Bollworm and Fall Armyworm Infestations
03 July 2025, Ludhiana: A monthly review meeting of research and extension activities was held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, to assess challenges faced by major crops in the state and deliberate on effective solutions. A key focus of the meeting was on control measures against Pink Bollworm in cotton and Fall Armyworm in maize.
Emphasis on Farmer Guidance
The meeting was chaired by Dr. M.S. Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, who urged scientists and extension officers to provide farmers with practical, science-backed solutions to safeguard their crops from pest infestations. He also stressed the promotion of sunflower cultivation during spring, dissemination of Kharif oilseed and pulse technologies through frontline demonstrations, and encouraged the use of mechanization in response to labour shortages.
Responsible Use of Recommended Pesticides
Addressing the gathering, Dr. G.S. Mangat, Additional Director of Research, underlined the importance of ensuring that farmers use only recommended pesticides and agrochemicals. He warned that indiscriminate use of unapproved chemicals could harm crops and pose environmental risks.
