Union Agriculture Minister Approves Procurement of Pulses and Oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to Benefit Farmers
25 September 2025, New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved the procurement of key pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for the Kharif 2025-26 season. The minister sanctioned 100% procurement of urad (black gram) and tur (pigeon pea) from farmers, while also approving the purchase of moong (green gram), sesame, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, and soybean, moong, and groundnut in Gujarat.
To safeguard farmers’ interests, Chouhan directed both states to ensure the entire procurement process is carried out in a transparent manner. The approved procurement, valued at ₹13,890.60 crore, is expected to significantly benefit farmers in the two states.
The decision was taken during a virtual meeting chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Chouhan, attended by Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Suryapratap Shahi and Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel. Senior officials from the Union and state agriculture departments, including Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, also participated.
Chouhan emphasized that the procurement process should be transparent, digital, and smoothly implemented. Both state ministers confirmed that purchases will be conducted through modern biometric authentication, point-of-sale (POS) machines, and digital portals.
Following the discussions, the Union Minister approved the following procurement in Uttar Pradesh: 2,27,860 metric tons of urad (₹1,777.30 crore), 1,13,780 metric tons of tur (₹910.24 crore), 1,983 metric tons of moong (₹17.38 crore), 30,410 metric tons of sesame (₹299.42 crore), and 99,438 metric tons of groundnut (₹722.22 crore).
In Gujarat, the approved quantities include 47,780 metric tons of urad (₹372.68 crore), 1,09,905 metric tons of soybean (₹585.57 crore), 12,62,163 metric tons of groundnut (₹9,167.08 crore), and 4,415 metric tons of moong (₹38.71 crore).
The minister stressed that procurement should be completely transparent to prevent any malpractice and ensure that only genuine farmers benefit, not intermediaries. Prior to procurement, all centers will have Aadhaar-based biometric or facial authentication and POS machines (approximately 350 in Uttar Pradesh and 400 in Gujarat). Farmers must register with NAFED and NCCF to sell crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), and all payments will be digitally transferred directly to bank accounts via e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukta portals.
Chouhan also stated that the approved quantities may be revised after the first advance estimate of Kharif 2025-26, ensuring maximum benefit to farmers. He highlighted that the digital and transparent system guarantees every eligible farmer the right to sell crops at government rates and receive timely payments.
