Indian Seed Company Advanta Explores IPO, Could Raise Half a Billion Dollars

29 September 2025, New Delhi: Advanta Enterprises Ltd., an Indian seed producer supported by investment firm KKR & Co., is reportedly planning a public listing that could bring in around $500 million. Four banks have been appointed to advise on the potential offering, according to sources close to the discussions.

Advanta is a part of UPL Ltd., a major agrochemical company in India. The proposed IPO could place the company’s valuation near $4 billion, though officials are still finalizing the details, including the timing and exact size of the offering.

UPL’s board had approved exploring strategic options for Advanta in September 2024. The company operates in more than 80 countries, marketing its products under the Advanta, Alta, and Pacific Seeds brands.

In recent years, KKR invested $300 million to acquire a 13% stake in Advanta, and in 2023, Alpha Wave purchased 12.5% of the company for $350 million, valuing the firm at roughly $2.8 billion. After a recent internal reorganization, UPL currently holds a 78% stake in Advanta.
