Argus Launches Africa Fertilizer Pricing Service
25 September 2025, London: Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus has launched a suite of fertilizer price assessments, with supporting data and analysis, offering market participants new insights into fertilizer supply chains in Africa.
In a market first for Africa, Argus assesses the cost of shipping fertilizers and sulphur along key trade corridors, providing a new tool for market participants and governments to track and optimise shipments over time.
The new weekly Argus Africa Fertilizer service sheds light on an historically opaque market by providing a broad package of prices, supported by data tracking supply and demand in the region.
The service covers the full range of fertilizers — nitrogen, phosphate, potash and compound NPKs — with price assessments for truckloads from key inland hubs as well as for seaborne cargoes. It also covers sulphur and will help the mining industry and its suppliers develop efficiencies in shipping sulphur to the Copper Belt of southern Africa. Sulphur is a critical raw material in mining and processing of metals such as copper and cobalt as well as a key part of the fertilizer complex.
Argus Media chairman and chief executive Adrian Binks said: “Africa has historically been regarded as a supplier of fertilizer thanks to its large resources of natural gas and phosphate rock — with significant exports of nitrogen and phosphates from the north and west, but also has the potential to become one of the world’s largest fertilizer markets as its population and agricultural economy grow. Our Africa fertilizer service brings much-needed transparency that will help participants make efficient investment decisions and support the development of this important sector in the region.”
Argus Africa Fertilizer complements similar regional services that cover Brazil, North America and Europe, as well as a full suite of global fertilizer publications, many of whose prices are used in physical and derivatives contracts internationally.
