Bayer Launches New Herbicide ‘Mateno More’ for Wheat in India

06 October 2025, New Delhi: Bayer has introduced ‘Mateno More’, a next-generation herbicide designed for long-lasting control against stubborn weeds of wheat that have increasingly challenged farmers across India.

According to the company, Mateno More is India’s first herbicide featuring a unique three-active-ingredient formulation, offering broad-spectrum and effective weed management in wheat crops. This advanced chemistry targets tough, resistant weeds that have outgrown the efficacy of older herbicides.

A New Hope for Wheat Farmers

India is the second-largest wheat producer in the world, but growers in major producing states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh face growing weed pressure from species like Phalaris minor, Rumex, and Chenopodium. These weeds compete aggressively with crops for nutrients and moisture, ultimately reducing yields and increasing production costs.

Mateno More is formulated to manage such challenges effectively. It is absorbed through both the roots and shoots of plants, ensuring long-term field cleanliness and sustained crop growth. Farmers benefit from fewer spray operations—saving time, labour, and cost—while maintaining soil health and improving productivity.

Pre-Emergent Protection: Stopping Weeds Before They Start

Bayer recommends using Mateno More within the first three days after wheat sowing. Classified as a pre-emergent herbicide, it prevents weeds from germinating and competing with the crop at the earliest stage of growth.

This early protection allows wheat plants to establish strongly, ensuring unhindered growth and a healthy canopy. The herbicide creates a protective layer in the soil that shields crops from weeds for several weeks, offering farmers peace of mind through a crucial phase of the growing cycle.

Driving Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture

At the launch event, Deepak Mahan Babu, Country Cluster Head for Bayer India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, said, “With Mateno More, we are not just launching a new herbicide—we are strengthening India’s food security and supporting farmers as they face evolving agricultural challenges.”

He added that Bayer remains committed to advancing innovation, sustainability, and farmer empowerment. The introduction of Mateno More, he said, is part of the company’s ongoing effort to equip Indian farmers with tools that make farming more productive and profitable, while promoting resilient, climate-smart agriculture.
