Soybean Crop Damage in Madhya Pradesh Linked to ‘Biochlor’ Herbicide; FIR Filed Against Company and Dealer
17 August 2025, New Delhi: In Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, several soybean farmers have reported severe crop losses allegedly caused by the herbicide Biochlor, manufactured by HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. Following the complaints, authorities have filed an FIR against the company and a local dealer.
Acting on the directives of District Collector Sandeep G.R. and under the guidance of Deputy Director of Agriculture Rajesh Tripathi, a team led by the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer of Banda and the Senior Agriculture Development Officer conducted an inquiry. According to the complaints, Supreme Agro Overseas (Proprietor: Manish Jain), based in Sagar District, sold the herbicide to farmers in villages including Chakeri, Vineka, Pipariya Chamari, Godai Pipariya, Illai, Kanera, Dhamoni, Pahladpur, and Naindhara.
Crops Dried, Weeds Unaffected
The investigation revealed that after application, the soybean plants dried up while weeds remained unaffected. A total of 23 farmers reported damage, with sales made both with and without formal invoices to around 35 farmers in the region.
Fraudulent Sale Alleged
Officials concluded that farmers were misled into purchasing an ineffective herbicide, causing financial losses. Based on the findings, Banda police registered an FIR against HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. and Supreme Agro Overseas, Sagar.
