Surge in Nano Fertilizer Demand: Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Lead with Record Sales

20 August 2025, New Delhi: India is witnessing a significant surge in demand for nano fertilizers such as Nano Urea and Nano DAP as farmers increasingly adopt these sustainable alternatives. Supported by government initiatives, research institutions, and fertilizer companies, the use of nano fertilizers is steadily gaining momentum across the country.

Government and Industry Driving Adoption

To boost farmer adoption, several steps have been taken, including awareness camps, webinars, field demonstrations, farmer conferences, and educational films in regional languages. Fertilizer companies are also ensuring that nano fertilizers are available at Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PMKSKs), while the Department of Fertilizers includes them in monthly supply plans to maintain consistent availability.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), through the Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal, recently launched a national campaign on efficient and balanced fertilizer use, highlighting the benefits of foliar application of Nano Urea. Farmers are being provided with modern equipment, including drones, battery-operated sprayers, and pilot custom-hiring spraying services, to make adoption easier.

Mega Campaigns Across States

The Department of Fertilizers has initiated a mega campaign across 15 agro-climatic zones to promote Nano DAP, while demonstrations of Nano Urea Plus are being conducted in 100 districts across India. Fertilizer companies are actively participating in these campaigns to raise awareness and expand reach at the grassroots level.

Record Demand and State-wise Consumption

The rising demand is clearly reflected in sales figures. Uttar Pradesh leads the nation with 136.39 lakh bottles of Nano Urea and 30.56 lakh bottles of Nano DAP sold, followed by Maharashtra with 99.09 lakh Nano Urea and 51.01 lakh Nano DAP bottles. Other leading states include Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. This information was shared by Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
