Lubrizol Enters Crop Care Formulation Market With ZYRA Product Family
21 October 2026, Ohio: Ohio-based specialty chemicals company Lubrizol has entered the crop care formulation segment of agriculture with the launch of ZYRA, a new family of formulation technologies aimed at manufacturers of pesticides, plant nutrition products, seed treatments and biologicals, the company announced on October 13, 2026.
Lubrizol, headquartered in Wickliffe, Ohio, and part of Berkshire Hathaway, is positioning ZYRA as a response to three pressures facing agrochemical and biologicals formulators: growers and regulators demanding better-performing, more efficient products; regulatory restrictions narrowing the pool of co-formulants manufacturers can use; and the practical challenge of keeping a formulation stable as it scales from laboratory testing to full commercial production.
The ZYRA family is built on five distinct platforms. ZYRAsperse covers hyperdispersants used for wetting, grinding and stabilizing active ingredients in high-load formulations. ZYRAflow consists of rheology modifiers designed to keep particles suspended in a product even at low use rates. ZYRAmul provides emulsifiers for emulsion and suspo-emulsion formulations. ZYRAwet supplies wetting agents and humectants that manage how a spray wets out and covers a leaf surface. ZYRAfix rounds out the line with binders and film formers that control spray retention, adhesion, dust-off and flow characteristics.
The products are aimed squarely at formulators rather than growers directly, covering crop protection, plant nutrition, seed treatment and biological products. Lubrizol says each ZYRA grade comes with supporting technical studies, application guidance and formulation starting points, backed by a four-stage support process covering problem identification, formula building, performance testing against industry benchmarks, and support through commercial-scale production. The products are commercially available immediately; Lubrizol has not disclosed specific country or regional rollout sequencing beyond noting that it operates more than 100 facilities and offices worldwide.
Eduardo Pedreira, President of Lubrizol Surface Sciences, said agriculture represents an important long-term growth opportunity for the company, while Fernando Vinagre, Lubrizol’s Global Business Director for Agriculture, is leading the newly formed agriculture business line. Lubrizol, founded in 1928, employs more than 7,000 people globally. The company has not disclosed R&D investment figures or performance benchmarks specific to the ZYRA line.
