Fodder Tree Plantation Held Under AICRP on Goat Improvement at Agriversity
26 August 2026, Palampur: A fodder tree plantation programme was organized under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Goat Improvement (Gaddi Field Unit) at CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya Palampur, with the objective of strengthening fodder resources for Gaddi goats and promoting sustainable livestock production.
As part of the programme, 20 fodder trees were planted at the Livestock Farm Complex of the University. The initiative is aimed at improving the availability of nutritious green fodder and ensuring long-term nutritional security for the Gaddi goat breed maintained under the project. Dr. (Maj. Retd.) Avaninder Kumar, Registrar, CSKHPKV, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Pankaj Sood, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (COVAS), was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Subhash Verma, Head, Department of Animal Genetics & Breeding, and Dr. S. Katoch, Head, Livestock Farm Complex, were also present.
The programme was attended by Dr. Nishant Verma, Principal Investigator, AICRP on Goat Improvement; Dr. Rakesh Thakur; Dr. Rohit Kumar; and Dr. Praveen Sharma, along with project staff and other University officials. Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of fodder tree plantation in ensuring a sustainable supply of quality feed for livestock, particularly in view of changing climatic conditions. They emphasized that fodder-based interventions can simultaneously contribute to livestock productivity, environmental conservation and biodiversity enhancement.
The plantation programme reaffirmed the commitment of CSKHPKV towards strengthening fodder security, conservation and genetic improvement of the indigenous Gaddi goat breed, while promoting sustainable livestock farming in the region.
