Nagaland Police Issues Cybersecurity Alert Over Fake ‘PM Kisan Yojana’ APK Targeting Mobile Devices
16 June 2025, New Delhi: The Nagaland Police has issued a cybersecurity advisory warning citizens about a malicious mobile application falsely branded as “PM Kisan Yojana.” According to the official statement, a harmful APK file bearing this name is being actively circulated across various districts and blocks within the state through individuals and groups.
The police caution that once an individual clicks and installs this APK file, their mobile device becomes compromised. The malicious software enables remote attackers to gain full control over the infected device, with a particular focus on hijacking the user’s WhatsApp account. Once compromised, the application automatically propagates itself by forwarding the malicious file to the victim’s entire contact list and WhatsApp groups, thereby escalating the spread of the malware.
Authorities have strongly advised the public to exercise extreme caution — specifically, to avoid clicking, downloading, or installing any APK files received from unverified sources. Citizens are also urged not to circulate such links and to report any incidents of distribution to the relevant law enforcement agencies.
The Nagaland Police emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about the threat to minimize the risk of further infections and protect public digital security.

Given the use of the “PM Kisan Yojana” name—a genuine and widely recognized government scheme aimed at farmers—there is a heightened risk of unsuspecting farmers falling prey to this scam. It is important to note that official government schemes do not require users to download third-party APK files. All legitimate information related to PM Kisan and similar programs is accessible only through official government portals and authorized applications.
