European Trials Report 4.3% Increase in Winter Wheat Yield with Arginex Seed Treatment

Independent trials across seven European sites also recorded lower yield variability and maintained grain quality, with results indicating potential to reduce fertiliser inputs.

23 October 2026, Sweden: Winter wheat treated with Arginex, a seed-applied crop nutrition technology developed by Arevo, recorded an average yield increase of 4.3% in independent field trials conducted across seven sites in France, Germany, Italy and Poland during the 2025/26 growing season.

The trials involved 340 plots and evaluated five fertiliser rates, with and without Arginex seed treatment. Treated wheat produced an average of 0.26 tonnes per hectare more grain than untreated crops. Yield variability was also approximately 20% lower across the trial sites, while grain protein content and thousand-kernel weight remained largely unchanged.

The results come amid concerns over drought, heat stress and fertiliser costs affecting European arable farming. Weather conditions during the trial season varied by location, with drought and sandy soils affecting crop establishment in Poland and high temperatures during May and June affecting the Italian sites.

The study found that the yield response varied according to growing conditions, with larger benefits reported where crop establishment was more challenging.

The trials also assessed reduced fertiliser applications. Where nitrogen and phosphorus inputs were cut by 20%, Arginex-treated wheat recorded yields that were not statistically different from untreated wheat receiving the full fertiliser programme. Untreated wheat receiving the reduced fertiliser rate recorded a yield decline of 0.43 tonnes per hectare compared with the full programme.

Crop establishment measurements showed that treated seed emerged 14% to 18% faster at the two Italian sites. Early spring canopy greenness was 15% to 29% higher at these locations, while treated plots in Poland recorded 12% to 18% greater ground cover.

Arginex combines arginine with phosphate in a non-microbial formulation designed for seed application. According to Arevo, the technology works by activating the root zone and supporting root development.

The company has planned further evaluations for the 2026/27 season to assess the consistency of the results across different growing conditions.

The findings follow reported trials of Arginex Corn, which recorded yield increases of up to 4.3% with 30% less nitrogen fertiliser in independent trials across Europe and South America.
