Cabinet Approves MSP Hike for All Six Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2027-28
01 October 2026, New Delhi: India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all six mandated Rabi crops for Marketing Season 2027-28.
The highest absolute increase has been approved for safflower at ₹675 per quintal, followed by rapeseed and mustard at ₹413 per quintal and lentil (masur) at ₹390 per quintal.
The MSP for gram has been increased by ₹83 per quintal, barley by ₹136 per quintal, while wheat has received an increase of ₹25 per quintal.

The expected margin over the All-India weighted average cost of production ranges from 50% to 106% under the approved MSPs. Wheat has the highest margin at 106%, followed by rapeseed and mustard at 96%, lentil at 92%, gram at 59%, barley at 58% and safflower at 50%.
The government said the MSP increase is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.
The higher MSPs for pulses and oilseeds are also part of the government’s efforts to encourage cultivation beyond cereals and promote crop diversification.
Wheat Procurement Rises Over Previous Decade
According to the government, wheat procurement during 2014-15 to 2025-26 increased to 3,715 LMT, compared with 2,254 LMT during 2004-05 to 2013-14.
Procurement of the six Rabi crops during 2014-15 to 2025-26 reached 3,921 LMT, compared with 2,302 LMT during 2004-05 to 2013-14.
The MSP amount paid to wheat-growing farmers during 2014-15 to 2025-26 stood at ₹7.31 lakh crore, compared with ₹2.56 lakh crore during 2004-05 to 2013-14.
For all six Rabi crops, the MSP amount paid to farmers during 2014-15 to 2025-26 was ₹8.36 lakh crore, compared with ₹2.65 lakh crore during 2004-05 to 2013-14.
