Bilateral meeting with H.E. Mustapha Ferjani, Minister of Health of the Republic of Tunisia
26 September 2026, Rome: The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Mustapha Ferjani, Minister of Health of the Republic of Tunisia at FAO headquarters on the margins of the Global Conference on Action on One Health in Agrifood Systems.
The Director-General appreciated Tunis participation in the Global Conference and reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to supporting country efforts to strengthen the nexus between human, animal and environmental health through the One Health approach.
The Minister expressed appreciation for FAO’s partnership and highlighted Tunisia’s commitment to continue advancing the One Health approach, disease prevention and resilient health systems.
The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration on pandemic preparedness through the Pandemic Fund One Health project. They also exchanged views on addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR), emerging zoonotic threats, and enhancing preparedness for cross-border disease risks.
The Director-General welcomed Tunisia’s efforts to strengthen its food safety architecture, including cooperation with national risk assessment institutions, to facilitate the development of a roadmap for enhanced technical cooperation between Tunisia, FAO, and relevant regional and international partners.
Both sides underscored the importance of South-South and Triangular Cooperation, digital innovation, interoperable data systems and AI-enabled surveillance to support more effective One Health governance, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation to promote healthier, safer and more resilient societies in Tunisia and the region.
