Bilateral with DRC Foreign Affairs Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba
03 October 2026, Rome: The FAO Director-General met today with Her Excellency Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Francophonie and Congolese Diaspora of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the ongoing cooperation between FAO and DRC and to discuss priorities for strengthening the country’s agrifood systems.
The Minister expressed her appreciation for the Director-General’s continued and steadfast support to the DRC. She highlighted the Government’s priority to enhance the country’s attractiveness for investment and to create a more secure and enabling environment for sustainable development.
The Minister further indicated that the DRC sought additional support from FAO in mobilizing investors and development partners, strengthening engagement with international financial institutions, enhancing capacities, mobilizing resources, and developing more adapted and context-specific agricultural strategies.
The Director-General welcomed the Minister and reaffirmed FAO’s readiness to support the Government in addressing key challenges facing the agrifood sector, and outlined key priority areas for strengthened collaboration, including agricultural mechanization and value chain development, digital solutions and extension services, and looked forward to the forthcoming signing of the FAO Country Programming Framework with the DRC.
The Director-General further encouraged the DRC to collaborate closely with the FAO Investment Centre, recalling its role in facilitating access to financing and promoting investment, in collaboration with international financial institutions. He also emphasized the importance of leveraging South-South and Triangular Cooperation as a strategic tool for knowledge exchange and resource mobilization.
