Initiative Aims at Enhancing Livelihoods and Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in Kangra District
07 April 2026, Palampur: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kangra of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya Palampur organized a farmer awareness programme at Jawali (Kangra) with the objective of promoting livelihood enhancement and sustainable agriculture among Scheduled Caste farmers of the district.
The programme was graced by Prof. Chander Kumar, Hon’ble Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister, Government of Himachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the need to enhance farmers’ income, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthen the rural economy. He also highlighted the state government’s commitment towards farmer welfare and encouraged farmers to take full advantage of various developmental schemes.
Vice-Chancellor of University Prof. A.K. Panda and Chairperson of the programme, appreciated the continuous efforts of KVK Kangra in uplifting the farming community. He emphasized the importance of natural farming and urged farmers to adopt eco-friendly and low-cost agricultural practices. He added that such programmes provide a valuable platform for interaction between farmers and experts, fostering innovation and improved outcomes in agriculture. More than 250 farmers actively participated in the programme. A key highlight of the event was the distribution of agricultural kits to Scheduled Caste farmers, aimed at supporting their farming activities and improving their livelihoods.
Dr. Vinod Sharma, Director of Extension Education, addressed the gathering and elaborated on various initiatives of the university, including farmer training programmes, skill development workshops, and collaborations with line departments. Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Programme Coordinator of KVK Kangra, presented a detailed overview of the centres activities, achievements, and ongoing initiatives related to farmer capacity building, technology dissemination, and sustainable agriculture. Dr. Neetu and Dr. Deep also delivered expert lectures on innovative farming practices and strategies for enhancing agricultural productivity. Officials from various line departments were also present and shared information about their schemes and services for the benefit of farmers.
