Tripura’s Dergang FPO Exports First Consignment of Mustard Honey to Dubai
1 MT shipment facilitated by APEDA marks first-ever export of mustard honey from the area
13 August 2026, New Delhi: Dergang Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) from Tripura has exported its first consignment of mustard honey to Dubai, with the 1 metric tonne shipment facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the shipment marks the first-ever export of mustard honey from the area and represents a new opportunity for Tripura’s beekeepers and farmers to access international markets through organised, export-oriented production.
The export is expected to support diversification of Tripura’s honey value chain and encourage local FPOs and beekeepers to focus on quality, aggregation and market-oriented production. Access to overseas markets could also provide farmers associated with Dergang FPO with improved price realisation compared with local market opportunities.
The initiative was supported by Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., which has been working with Dergang FPO to strengthen bee production and develop an export-oriented honey supply chain. The collaboration helped the FPO establish its first link with an international market and enabled farmers to participate in the export value chain.
The shipment also highlights the potential of FPO-led aggregation in connecting small producers with international buyers. For Tripura, the development is significant for its emerging honey and beekeeping sector, particularly as the state seeks to expand organised agricultural production and strengthen market access for farmers.
Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the first export of mustard honey by Dergang FPO demonstrates the potential of the state’s agricultural products to reach international markets and create additional income opportunities for farming communities. He also highlighted the state government’s focus on strengthening apiculture, organic agriculture and the ability of FPOs to access wider markets.
The export consignment was flagged off by Nath in the presence of Apurba Roy, Secretary, Agriculture & Horticulture, Government of Tripura; Jennifer Chang, Executive Director, IFOAM Organics Asia; senior APEDA officials; representatives of the exporter and logistics partners; and beekeepers from the region.
APEDA has been working with state governments, FPOs, exporters, processors and other stakeholders to expand agricultural exports from the North Eastern Region through market linkages, capacity building, quality assurance and export facilitation.
The mustard honey shipment to Dubai adds another product to Tripura’s emerging agricultural export portfolio and demonstrates how organised farmer collectives and industry partnerships can help connect regional agricultural products with international markets.
