What is AgriStack? India’s Digital Platform Transforming Agriculture
10 August 2026, New Delhi: AgriStack is India’s farmer-centric Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to make agricultural services, government schemes, and financial support faster, more transparent, and easier to access. Built as a public digital platform, AgriStack creates a verified digital profile for every farmer by integrating key agricultural data while ensuring privacy and data security.
What is AgriStack?
AgriStack is designed to serve as the digital backbone of India’s agriculture sector. It creates a comprehensive digital profile of farmers by linking information such as:
- Farmer details
- Digitized land records
- Crops grown
- Livestock and fisheries assets
The platform is built on three core registries maintained by State Governments and Union Territories:
- Farmer Registry
- Geo-Referenced Village Maps
- Crop Sown Registry
Together, these registries enable more efficient delivery of agricultural services across the country.
What is a Farmer ID?
A Farmer ID is generated by synchronizing a farmer’s details with digitized land records. It serves as a unique digital identity for farmers, enabling seamless access to government services.
As of 3 August 2026, more than 10.31 crore Farmer IDs have been created across India.
The Farmer Registry is being integrated with several farmer-focused initiatives, including:
- Agricultural credit and loan disbursement
- Crop insurance services
- Weather advisories
- MSP-based crop procurement systems
- Other government welfare schemes
Digital Crop Survey Expands Coverage
During the Rabi 2025-26 season, the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) was conducted across 648 districts, covering more than 31.3 crore agricultural plots. Manipur has also initiated the Digital Crop Survey and is participating in the creation of Farmer IDs.
How AgriStack Protects Farmers’ Data
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said AgriStack follows a federated architecture, meaning ownership of farmer data remains with the respective State Governments.
The platform has been developed in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025. Farmers’ information is collected only after obtaining their consent, and they retain control over how their data is shared with authorized entities for specific purposes.
According to the ministry, AgriStack also complies with cybersecurity guidelines issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). Farmer data is stored in encrypted form, allowing access only to authorized systems.
AI-Based Crop Yield Estimation
The government is also using digital technologies to improve crop assessment under the YES-TECH initiative of the Crop Insurance Scheme.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are among the technologies being used for crop yield estimation in paddy, wheat, and soybean.
To support this effort, the government has developed the Digital General Crop Estimation System (DGCES), which provides accurate and timely crop yield estimates for agricultural production planning.
