AgriStack is a farmer-centric Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for agriculture being developed by the Government of India under the Digital Agriculture Mission. It is built around three foundational registries: the Farmers’ Registry, Geo-Referenced Village Maps, and Crop Sown Registry. A key component is the Farmer ID, a digital identity linked with relevant farmer and agricultural information, designed to simplify access to services such as government schemes, crop insurance, credit, procurement, input distribution, and disaster relief.
AgriStack uses a federated architecture, with the respective State Governments and Union Territories maintaining ownership of the underlying registries. The platform is intended to create a stronger digital foundation for farmer-centric services while supporting data-driven agricultural planning, crop monitoring, policy implementation, and digital innovation. As of 19 March 2026, more than 9.20 crore Farmer IDs had been generated nationwide, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The Digital Crop Survey is another important component, providing plot-level information on crops grown across seasons. The data can support procurement planning, input supply, logistics, agricultural advisories, crop insurance, and evidence-based policymaking. AgriStack is also being integrated with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, GIS, and remote sensing, creating opportunities for more targeted and responsive digital agricultural services.
This category features AgriStack policy developments, Farmer ID updates, Digital Crop Survey, government initiatives, technology partnerships, AI and data applications, farmer-service innovations, privacy and data governance, and developments in India’s digital agriculture ecosystem.
