Fertilizer Industry Marks Global Fertilizer Day by Bringing Hands-On Soil Science to Classrooms Nationwide
15 October 2026, Arlington: The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) is today celebrating Global Fertilizer Day, an annual event observed by the fertilizer industry around the world to educate people about the industry’s contributions to feeding both the global population and the global economy, and to encourage students to explore the many fulfilling career paths available within the industry.
“We are extremely proud of the fertilizer industry’s global role and believe we are lucky to be able to not only feed the world by putting food on people’s tables, but also strengthen communities by providing important and fulfilling careers and working tirelessly to innovate to be good environmental stewards,” said TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch. “We feed the world, we do it sustainably, and we are proud of the women and men working in our industry to make it all happen. It is an honor to celebrate them, and that’s what Global Fertilizer Day is all about.”
This year’s celebration set another record year for student engagement, with this being the second consecutive year of 200 Fertilizer Fun Boxes provided to classrooms across the country. Supported through Nutrients for Life, Fertilizer Fun Boxes are filled with hands-on educational materials designed to teach students about soil science and the vital role of fertilizers. This year’s boxes include soil probes and shovels for sampling, a soil permeability and porosity kit, soil samples from several states for regional comparison, NPK test kits for analyzing essential plant nutrients, and a ready-to-use lesson plan tied to the Nutrients for Life middle and high school curricula. Distributing the boxes in October gives teachers time to build the activities into their lesson plans early in the school year.
“This program is only possible because of the strong support we receive from industry,” said Haley Siergiej of Nutrients for Life. “The engagement of TFI members and our sponsoring companies has been incredible. This year, we also partnered with the Hays FFA Chapter in Hays, Kansas, to pack the boxes, and seeing the students’ excitement firsthand was a highlight.”
TFI is also helping the industry spread the word through social media. “TFI has put together some interesting facts about the industry for companies to share through their channels, along with a handful of short videos,” Rosenbusch concluded. “We’re excited to share with the world the wonderful and amazing contributions the fertilizer industry makes to feed economies and populations.”
