The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) is Germany’s largest research funding organisation and central self-governing organisation for science and the humanities. It funds high-quality, primarily researcher-led basic research across all academic disciplines, using competitive, science-led peer-review procedures. The DFG is jointly funded by Germany’s federal and state governments and operates on a not-for-profit basis.

The DFG supports individual research projects, collaborative research programmes, early-career researchers, research infrastructure, international cooperation, and emerging research fields. It also contributes to the development of the German and European research systems, advises public institutions on scientific matters, and supports knowledge transfer and dialogue between science and society.

For agriculture and food systems, DFG-funded research can span areas such as plant science, crop biology, soil science, agricultural engineering, biotechnology, climate change, biodiversity, food security, environmental sciences, and sustainable agriculture. Its GEPRIS database provides information on DFG-funded research projects, researchers, and participating institutions, with the updated platform launched in July 2026.

This category features German Research Foundation funding announcements, scientific research, agricultural research, climate and environmental studies, biotechnology, plant and soil research, research collaborations, scientific discoveries, research programmes, international partnerships, and developments supported by the DFG.
