BioWorks Launches BioRain Ax to Help Crops Cope with Water Stress

10 October 2026, New York: BioWorks has launched BioRain Ax, a microbial inoculant designed to help crops withstand limited-water conditions, support plant health and improve yield potential.

The product is intended for use in outdoor specialty crops, ornamentals, greenhouses, nurseries and other high-value crop production systems. According to the company, BioRain Ax helps maintain crop growth and vigour under water-limited conditions by improving water access and retention in the root zone.

BioRain Ax contains a consortium of beneficial microorganisms, including Priestia megaterium, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus paralicheniformis. The microorganisms colonise the plant rhizosphere, where they are designed to improve soil structure, enhance water retention and increase nutrient availability. These functions support root development and help plants access water and nutrients more efficiently.

Available as a liquid formulation, BioRain Ax can be applied through soil or irrigation systems and integrated into existing crop protection programmes, BioWorks said.

“Growers need products that work in real-world conditions and help them protect yield when access to water is limited,” said Chris Rose, General Manager at BioWorks. He added that the product was developed to provide growers with a practical tool to support plant health, improve water-use efficiency and help crops manage drought stress.

Field Trial Reports Improved Water-Stress Performance

In a field trial conducted on watermelon, BioRain Ax-treated plants produced fruit that was 14.5% heavier than that of untreated plants, according to the company. The trial also reported reduced fruit cracking, more uniform production and better-developed foliage.

The findings indicate the product’s potential role in supporting crop performance under drought and transplant stress. However, the reported results relate to the specific watermelon trial, and performance may vary depending on crop type, soil conditions and growing environment.

Product Availability

BioRain Ax is available in a liquid formulation in one-gallon containers through authorised BioWorks distributors across the United States, excluding California.

BioWorks provides biological crop protection and plant health solutions for commercial growers.
