BASF Launches Basta ULTRA Herbicide in Australia with New Glu-L Technology
06 May 2026, Australia: BASF has launched Basta® ULTRA, the latest generation of its Basta herbicide range, introducing the company’s new Glu-LTM technology aimed at improving herbicide performance, crop safety and operational efficiency for growers across Australia.
According to BASF, the new formulation builds on more than three decades of use of the Basta brand in Australian agriculture and horticulture systems.
“Growers across Australia have trusted Basta for more than three decades. With Basta ULTRA, we’ve taken that proven performance and advanced it with new technology to meet today’s challenges of efficiency, crop safety and sustainability,” said Parvana Wali, Head of Agricultural Solutions, BASF Australia and New Zealand.
Basta ULTRA is highly concentrated L-glufosinate ammonium designed to provide knock-down control of more than 100 annual and perennial weeds, including both grass and broadleaf species. The herbicide is targeted for use across horticultural production systems including tree crops, vineyards and vegetable cultivation.
The company said the upgraded formulation offers improved crop safety compared with glyphosate-based herbicides. BASF added that the lower application rate can help reduce manual handling requirements along with storage and transport needs for growers and distributors.
A key feature of the product is BASF’s new “lock” formulation technology, which is intended to improve droplet retention and reduce spray bounce and product loss during application. The formulation is also rainfast within six hours, which BASF says can help minimise repeat applications and improve weed management efficiency.
Basta ULTRA has received registration approval from the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and is expected to be available soon through authorised BASF distributors across Australia.
